Coating Line for pulses

Coating Line for Pulses

Coating line for sensitive and abrasive crops

For this project, a new seed treating line for pulses was installed. The system is designed especially for crops such as peas, beans and other pulses.

The focus was on precise and reproducible seed treatment, gentle product handling and a robust execution for abrasive crops. In particular, breakage, abrasion and unnecessary drop impact must be minimized, while uniform treatment of each batch must be ensured.

Insights

The raw material is fed into the line via big bags. For discharge from the intake hopper, a gentle continuous bucket conveyor was selected.

Before the actual seed treating process, light particles such as dust, husks or pod fragments are removed by an aspirator. The seed is then buffered in a silo. An integrated bean ladder supports gentle filling and reduces the drop height.

At the heart of the line is a Niklas batch treating unit type W.N. 5/100. The system is designed for controlled treatment of seed batches and is equipped with electronic seed weighing and gravimetric liquid dosing. This allows seed and chemical liquid to be dosed precisely and processed reproducibly. Wear-protected and product gentle executions in relevant areas support reliable long-term operation.

After coating, the seed is transferred to packaging. Depending on requirements, the customer can choose between big bag filling or bagging.

A dedicated aspiration system captures dust at the relevant points of the treating line and supports clean, safe operation.

Highlights

A key requirement was the combination of precise seed coating and gentle conveying. Pulses are heavy, large-grained and sensitive to breakage. At the same time, their surface structure and weight can lead to increased wear.

For this reason, the line was designed for controlled product movement, short and gentle transfer points and wear-protection were necessary. Critical areas such as hoppers, transfer points, conveying equipment and product discharge were designed to reduce breakage and abrasion.

The Niklas W.N. 5/100 enables reproducible batch treatment with accurate weighing of seed and chemical liquids. This allows treating processes to be documented, repeated and adapted to different products or recipes.

The integration into the existing building and the consideration of existing traffic routes also placed demands on layout planning and engineering. All plant components therefore had to be precisely coordinated with the available spatial conditions.
